At Sam’s Spares, free technology is not unlimited, and it’s not random.
All gifted devices are made possible through our Get One Give One (G1G1) model, where the purchase of refurbished technology directly funds a matched device for someone in genuine need.
This approach allows us to:
Every free device exists because someone purchased one.
Below are the three clear pathways to access technology through Sam’s Spares.
Please read carefully and choose the option that applies to you.
Sam’s Spares works with trusted organisations and schools as Digital Access Partners to help identify individuals and families experiencing genuine financial hardship who need access to technology.
Many organisations already support people in their community who cannot afford essential technology for education, job searching, training, or staying connected. Our Digital Access Partner Program allows these organisations to request devices on behalf of the people they support.
Once approved, Digital Access Partners do not need to submit individual applications for each client. Instead, organisations can simply email Sam’s Spares when a device is required for an eligible person.
This allows us to reduce administration and provide devices to the community more quickly.
We welcome applications from organisations that work directly with individuals experiencing financial hardship, including:
• Schools
• Registered charities and not-for-profits
• Community organisations
• Support services
Organisations must be able to verify that the people they support meet Sam’s Spares eligibility requirements before requesting a device.
Sam’s Spares provides free devices to individuals experiencing genuine financial hardship who hold one of the following nationally recognised concession cards:
• Pensioner Concession Card (PCC)
• Health Care Card (HCC)
• Low Income Health Care Card (LIHCC)
• Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Pensioner Concession Card
Digital Access Partners are responsible for verifying that recipients hold one of these cards before requesting a device.
Working with trusted organisations allows Sam’s Spares to:
• Reach people who genuinely need support
• Reduce administration and application processing time
• Provide devices more quickly to the community
• Focus our resources on refurbishing and repairing technology
Sam’s Spares operates thanks to strong community partnerships. We ask Digital Access Partners to help recognise the impact of the program where possible by:
• Providing occasional social media shout-outs acknowledging Sam’s Spares
• Listing Sam’s Spares as a supporter or partner on your website
• Mentioning Sam’s Spares in annual reports or community impact reporting where appropriate
• Sharing stories about the impact of technology in your community
If your organisation would like to become a Sam’s Spares Digital Access Partner, please complete the application form below.
Once approved, your organisation will be able to request devices for eligible clients by contacting our team directly.

Pathway 1: Free Devices for Individuals & Students
Via Schools, Charities & Community Organisations (Preferred)
This is the primary and prioritised way free G1G1-funded devices are allocated.
Schools, charities, and community organisations may apply at any time on behalf of:
PLEASE NOTE BEFORE BEGINNING APPLICATION:
Sam’s Spares – Accepted Concession Cards for Free Devices
We recognise that financial hardship can exist in many forms, and we understand that some individuals and families may be doing it tough without qualifying for the concession cards listed above.
However, in order to ensure fairness, consistency, and responsible allocation of our limited resources, Sam’s Spares has drawn the line at these nationally recognised hardship indicators.
This allows us to support those in verified financial need while maintaining the integrity and sustainability of our program.
Pathway 2: Direct Public Applications
Limited Monthly Intake
For individuals not connected to a school or support organisation, Sam’s Spares offers limited direct access to free devices.
Not all applications can be approved.
If you are connected to a school, charity, or community service, you must apply through them instead.
DUE TO OVERWHELMING DEMAND DIRECT APPLICATIONS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Pathway 3: Free IT for Charities & Not-for-Profits
Organisational Use
Sam’s Spares provides free refurbished IT to small, grassroots charities and not-for-profit organisations delivering direct frontline services that would otherwise struggle to access reliable technology.
This pathway is for organisational use only, not for clients, students, or participants.
Your organisation must:
All applications are assessed to ensure fairness, transparency, and responsible distribution.
We recognise that many organisations, including larger charities, rely on technology to deliver vital services.
Organisations that do not meet the criteria for free IT are welcome to:
Every G1G1 purchase contributes to:
Sam’s Spares can provide:
These can be used in grant applications where refurbished IT is required as part of a funded project.
These boundaries protect the sustainability of Sam’s Spares and ensure long-term community impact.
